    Strumpshaw Recycling Centre

I am writing to let you know that we will be reopening Strumpshaw Recycling Centre on Thursday 28 May

We have been in the process of reopening our Recycling Centres since the 11 May.  This was following the Government’s updated guidance which advised that local authorities should seek to retain access to HWRC services for their residents to dispose of waste. All twenty of Norfolk’s recycling centres have been closed since 25 March 2020 when the Government restricted travel outside the home to limited essential purposes.

We currently have nine sites reopened; Dereham, Thetford, Caister, Ketteringham, Mile Cross, King’s Lynn, Sheringham, Mayton Wood and Hempton Recycling Centres. And this week we plan to open Strumpshaw, Ashill and Heacham Recycling Centres.

To manage demand and help ensure safe operations the centres will offer a restricted service and:

    • Require social distancing of two metres by all customers.
    • Operate on a managed one in one out basis for cars.
    • Only allow two adults out of a car to unload their waste.
    • Assistance will not be offered to help empty cars.
    • Provide for the disposal and recycling of the main waste streams including green waste, general waste and charged for DIY type construction and demolition waste.

We have included some frequently asked questions below but you will find all the latest information on the service here www.norfolk.gov.uk/recyclingupdates

  • Rail Services

These are exceptional times. Coronavirus is changing how everyone lives, works and travels. We know that Britain’s railway is vital to keep the nation connected and we wanted to update you on what is happening to train services.

In order to keep trains running with fewer staff over what may be a prolonged period of disruption for the country, we have worked with government to switch to a reduced timetable from Monday 23 March. It means that essential workers will continue to be able to get to their jobs over the coming weeks and months, and that trains will continue to deliver the goods that keep our supermarket shelves stacked and our power stations running.

There will be around half the number of trains running compared to a normal weekday, with early morning and late evening services where possible to support those doing shift work. New train times will be available from midday Sunday 22 March. Please check National Rail for more information and before you set out.

We are monitoring journeys closely and should it become necessary in the weeks ahead, we will adjust services to ensure they’re being delivered to where they’re needed most. In the meantime, if your journey is essential and you need to travel by train, please follow public health advice.

We would like to thank all customers for their support as we work through this time of extraordinary national challenge. We would also like to thank all our colleagues in the rail industry who, like other key workers, are to be commended for putting the needs of the country first, and whose safety remains front of mind. Together, they are keeping the country connected.

    Sincerely,

    The Railcard Team

  • Uk Power Networks Helpline

As part of our preparation plans, UK Power Networks has organised for additional staff in our contact centre to help customers whose electricity supply might be affected by the predicted weather, and we have called up additional engineers to carry out repairs to overhead lines and poles as soon as the wind reduces to a speed at which it is safe to work.

We would be very grateful if you could share the information below with your local residents and constituents, so that they are aware of who to contact in the event their electricity is interrupted by the weather.

Anyone experiencing a power cut should:

    • Call 105 to report power cuts and damage to the electricity network, or 0800 3163 105 (from a corded phone or mobile phone if you have no power)
    • Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk for the latest updates
    • Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/powercut and type in their postcode to view our live power cut map
    • Tweet @ukpowernetworks to report a power cuts or to receive updates

We advise people to stay clear of power lines and report damaged power lines immediately by calling 105 free from either a landline or a mobile phone. If they see electricity lines that are down or causing significant risk to the public they should call 999.

We provide extra help to customers on our Priority Service Register during a power cut.  Households with older or disabled people, those with children under five, or where someone uses medical or mobility equipment that requires electricity as well as other reasons can join the register.  You can find out more information about our Priority Service on our website: ukpowernetworks.co.uk/priority.
